Lessons for India from the first Test Match

Team India on a roll had a reality check in the first test match with Australia beating India at their own game. Where everyone expected Australia to capitulate on a rank turning pitch it was India who were found wanting in facing the spin of Steve O’Keefe and company. Indians who are supposed to play spin more easily than their overseas counterpart just could not play the ball on merit. The Australians especially Steve Smith showed Indian how to play spin on a turning track.

While the Indian spin bowlers got carried away by the pitch and tried too hard the Australian bowlers just pitched the ball in the right areas and let the ball do the rest. Even the fielding left  a lot to be desired and Steve Smith was let off on four occasions.

Indian will have a lot to do if they are to win this series. They have to come out of their comfort zone and come back hard at the visitors.

Anyway the series promised to be riveting and which can only be good news for the oldest format of the game which in recent times have been upstaged by the shorter form .
