Lankan Navy Shot Dead Indian Fisherman

Hundreds of fishermen  staged a  Protest at Thangachimadam  island to protest the killing of an Indian fisherman allegedly by the Sri Lankan navy.

A  Indian fisherman who fishing in a boat near the Katchatheevu islet was shot dead by the Sri Lankan Navy.The Protesting Fisherman refused to accept his body unless a central minister came and addressed all their concerns. They also wanted an assurance that such incident won’t be repeated in the future, Rameswaram Fishermen association President S Emiret stated.

The fishermen have also demanded the arrest of the Lankan Navy Personnel involved in the incident, S Emiret stated.The fishermen alleged that there has been no  coordination between Lankan and Indian officers on the problem of fishermen fishing inside the Palk Strait.

They demanded the release  of all Indian fishermen arrested by way of the Sri Lankan military and also the boats seized by them .Policemen were deployed inside the island to monitor the situation.

Another  fisherman, Saravanan (22), suffered injuries from the firing at the same time but was unhurt reports state.
