A heavy heat wave swept on Tuesday over the Andhra Pradesh coastal areas, with some place recording the highest temperature this season. Guntur and Vijayawada remained very hot with mercury levels, phenomenally high at 47 and 46.2 degrees Celsius, during the day - the highest so far. Hyderabad recorded a high temperature of 42.4 degrees. People preferred to stay at home or in their office and the streets were deserted during the day.
Bapatla, Ongole, and Nellore also exhibited severe heat wave-like conditions, as daytime temperatures reached a varying 43 degrees Celsius. IMD said that this heat wave condition is likely to continue on Wednesday due to a rise in temperature. The heat wave is expected to continue till Thursday after which it may subside.
