A 57-year-old farmer committed suicide on Wednesday in Vikarabad district, depressed by the debt burden. Locals found Kondani Narsimhulu hanging himself from a tree in his field, the police said.
According to the police, Narsimhulu came from the village of Doma in the district. He had grown cotton this season, but the harvest was damaged by bad weather. He was also pressured to repay loans he had taken from villagers to buy agricultural supplies. With the crop damaged , he could not make repayment of the money he had borrowed. Narsimhulu took this extreme step, unable to bear the burden of debt and interest. Farmers found him hanging from the tree and alerted the police.
