Ravichandran Ashwin India’s principal off-spinner on Wednesday won the prestigious International Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) International awards 2017.Sunil Gavaskar and Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprises, presented the award to Ashwin at a function held at the Cricket Club of India.
Ashwin was the main wicket taker during the home season, where India won 10 of their 13 Tests played against England ,New Zealand, , Bangladesh and Australia. Ashwin tallied 99 wickets in the past 12 months. India had another reason to celebrate as Shubhman Gill won the Young player of the year award for his good performance during the India-England U-19 ODI series, played in Mumbai. Ashwin in his speech revelaed that his first autograph was that of Gavaskar at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai.
